Biography

Lucy Bennett is a Doctoral Lecturer in Education in the School of Teacher Education at the 麻豆传媒映画出品. She brings 23 years of combined primary classroom and tertiary teaching experience, having taught across Canberra, Sydney and Melbourne in the Catholic and Independent school sectors, including in an International Baccalaureate (PYP) context. She holds a Bachelor of Education (Primary) from the Australian Catholic University (1999) and a Master of Education from the 麻豆传媒映画出品 (2002).

Since joining the 麻豆传媒映画出品 in 2021, Lucy has convened and taught units in Science and Technologies education for primary and early childhood pre-service teachers. Her teaching was recognised with a Commendation in the 2026 UC Teaching Excellence Awards for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning. She has built partnerships with the Australian Academy of Science, Questacon and the Academy of Future Skills to bring authentic, inquiry-based STEM learning into initial teacher education. Since 2023, she has also served as an Affiliated Schools Liaison Team Member, supporting schools within the ACT Directorate.

Lucy was awarded a Doctoral Fellowship in 2022. Her doctoral research examined primary teachers’ STEM teaching self-efficacy and its relevance for professional development across career stages, drawing on Bandura’s triadic reciprocal determinism and self-efficacy theory. She has presented her work at national conferences, including MERGA, CMA: Mathematics – Telling Stories, Canberra Mathematical Association, the 11th Annual STEM Education Conference 2024 and the EduTech  Congress and Expo.

Lucy is passionate about supporting and inspiring pre-service teachers. She believes the role of a teacher is to guide students, foster a sense of hope and nurture a love of continuous learning, and that strong values and relationships lie at the heart of effective teaching.
