7 October 2025: Over 80 Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»³öÆ· students across nine teams competed in the 2025 UniSport Nationals, held at the Gold Coast in the first week of October – with two UC teams receiving silver medals for their respective performances.
Allana Benson and Lucia Zarak came second in the women’s beach volleyball to Queensland University of Technology and the women’s division two netball team were narrowly defeated by La Trobe University in the gold medal match.
Other notable results include the men’s futsal team who came fifth, men’s tennis team who came eighth, and the women’s football team who came ninth in a finals match against the Australian National University, where they won 1-nil.
Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»³öÆ· Director of Sport and Partnerships Carrie Graf said the athletes representing the University showed great sportsmanship and character.
“While the competition results for UC may not be flush with medals, what I’ve been most proud of as Director of Sport is the way the team has conducted themselves both on and off the field,” she said.
This year, Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»³öÆ· students competed in basketball, futsal, netball, Oztag, beach volleyball, football, and tennis. Two students also represented UC as individuals in the Japanese martial art of kendo.
Over 6,600 competitors from 40 member universities were brought together in this year's UniSport Nationals, competing in 32 sports. They were keenly supported by a record 550 Non-Competing Officials (NCOs) ensuring the smooth delivery of all competitions held across the 35 sports venues spanning the Gold Coast.
Bachelor of Secondary Education (Health and Physical Education) student and Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»³öÆ· co-team captain Nick Andreazza said the Gold Coast was the perfect location for the event.
“This was my third UniSport Nationals tournament, and this one had the most interconnection between different sport and teams, which made the whole trip really enjoyable,” he said.
“The Gold Coast has always been a great host for these events – the facilities that we got to use were great, as well as the convenience of staying right in Surfer’s Paradise where everything was only a five-minute walk or tram ride away.”
Mr Andreazza competed in the men’s futsal competition, and said that within the sport and the wider competition, he was proud of how the University perfomed across the board.
“I think each team and competitor did a great job representing the University,” he said.
“Even when facing a more competitive team, UC would always do the most they could until fulltime. I was so impressed with many teams having the resilience to play with decreased numbers or injured players. Nobody wanted to let the team down.”
He recommends the experience to all students.
“Find a way to do this at least once during your time at UC – it’s the most enjoyable week in the University calendar,” Mr Andreazza said.
“The memories you make and friendships you build are something you can’t get without experiencing something as fun and unique as this.”
