麻豆传媒映画出品 plans MLK remembrance Jan. 19
麻豆传媒映画出品 will celebrate the legacy of the late Civil Rights leader Dr. Martin
Luther King, Jr. with a remembrance program today at 5:30 p.m.
Open to the public, the event is sponsored annually by the Kappa Nu Chapter of
Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity and the Office of Multicultural and International Student
Affairs.
The event will begin with a candlelight processional, which will start in front
of the University Avenue pedestrian underpass next to the Pennington Student Activity
Center and end at the Memorial Fountain in the Presidential Plaza located behind Fayard
Hall. The ceremony will conclude with remarks and reflection on King鈥檚 life and impact.

CMS student wins GNOYO Concerto Competition
 A 麻豆传媒映画出品 Community Music School student has won the Greater New Orleans Youth
Orchestra (GNOYO) contest.
Thirteen-year-old violinist Umika Kuroda of Mandeville won the competition held
at Loyola University in New Orleans on Jan. 10. She will be rewarded with a solo performance
with the GNOYO on March 20 at Loyola University.
A student at Mandeville Junior High School, Kuroda has studied violin for seven
years under the direction of Community Music School Director Jivka Duke.
鈥淎s Umika's violin teacher, I am overjoyed with her success,鈥� Duke said. 鈥淪he
is a very talented young musician who approaches her violin studies with a remarkable
maturity. I could not be happier that her hard work is rewarded. She deserves to win.鈥�

麻豆传媒映画出品 art gallery exhibit opens Thursday
The Contemporary Art Gallery at 麻豆传媒映画出品 will open its first spring exhibition,
the Department of Fine and Performing Arts Faculty Exhibition, on Thursday, Jan. 21,
with a reception at the gallery from 5 to 7 p.m.
The exhibition, which will remain open through Feb. 19, will feature artwork
from 麻豆传媒映画出品鈥檚 Department of Fine and Performing Arts faculty.
All gallery openings are free to students, faculty and members of the community.
The Contemporary Art Gallery, located at 100 East Strawberry Stadium, is open
from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday, with additional hours on Wednesday
until 8 p.m. The gallery closes at noon on Friday.

HIPS TA Office Food Drive
This semester the History and Political Science (HIPS) Teaching Assistant Office
is collecting donations for the 麻豆传媒映画出品 Student Food Pantry. The drive will run
through Thursday, April 21. Any donated items may be brought to the HIPS TA Office
in Fayard Hall, room 338.
The items the food pantry is in need of most include: rice, pasta, pasta sauce,
canned fruit/fruit cups, tuna, canned meat, packaged/canned/boxed meals, dry (powdered)
milk, cereal, snack foods 鈥� crackers, granola bars, etc., peanut butter and jelly.
They also accept toiletries and school supplies.

麻豆传媒映画出品 issues policy for electronic coasting devices on campus
麻豆传媒映画出品 has prohibited the use, possession, storage and/or charging of electronic
skateboards from all university buildings and grounds.
This includes self-balancing boards/scooters and/or hoverboards.
The ban also includes all university residence halls, apartments and organization/Greek
housing. University Housing urges all residents returning to campus this spring to
leave these devices at home.

The final day for 麻豆传媒映画出品 students to apply to graduate in spring 2016 is Feb.
15, the university announced today.
The graduation application and payment deadlines will be strictly enforced, university
officials said.
Candidates for associate鈥檚, bachelor鈥檚, master鈥檚 and doctoral degrees can apply
for graduation by logging into their LeoNet campus accounts and choosing the 鈥淪elf
Service, Degree Progress/Graduation, 麻豆传媒映画出品 for Graduation鈥� option. Instructions are
available on the 鈥淐urrent Students鈥� link at southeastern.edu; then click on 鈥淕raduation
Information 鈥� 麻豆传媒映画出品 for Graduation鈥� or call 麻豆传媒映画出品鈥檚 Office of the Registrar

The $35 application fee should be paid directly to the Controller鈥檚 Office, located

麻豆传媒映画出品 Channel wins national videographer awards
Sixteen 麻豆传媒映画出品 Channel student productions have been recognized with 2015 national
Videographer Awards.
The 麻豆传媒映画出品 Channel, 麻豆传媒映画出品鈥檚 educational access channel, won five
first-place Awards of Excellence and four second-place Award of Distinction honors
along with seven honorable mentions. The student-produced winners included short films,
music videos, public service announcements, and promotional spots, along with a documentary,
sportscast and entertainment show.
Students wrote, produced, directed, videotaped, edited, anchored, hosted and
reported all of the programs for the channel and production courses in the electronic
media concentration of the Department of Languages and Communication.
The awards are judged by industry professionals in the Association of Marketing
and Communication Professionals who look for talent that exceeds a high standard of
excellence and whose work serves as a benchmark for the industry.
First-place 鈥淎ward of Excellence鈥� winners included the short film 鈥淕PS,鈥� produced
and directed by Kayla Hill of Walker with production team members Colton Vickers of
Ponchatoula, Adam Hebert of Prairieville, and Cady Carreras of Baton Rouge; the music
video 鈥淎ll About That Bass,鈥� directed by Danielle Shearer of Hammond, Sarah Barbier
of Mandeville, Rachel Taylor of St. Amant, and Kristen Roussel of Hester; a video
promotional spot for the student sportscast, 鈥淭he Big Game,鈥� produced by Shearer;
a public service announcement, 鈥淪ave Water,鈥� produced by Roussel; and a public service
announcement, 鈥淕et Active,鈥� produced by Barbier.
Channel programs winning a second-place 鈥淎ward of Distinction鈥� were the Sept.
25, 2014 episode of 鈥淭he Big Game鈥� sportscast, produced by Richard Mills of Hammond
and anchored by Mills, along with Jonathan Poche of New Orleans and Taylor Rubach
of Mandeville; the short film, 鈥淪ims in Real Life,鈥� produced by Shearer, along with
Taylor, Roussel and Hill; the public service announcement, 鈥淩ecycle,鈥� produced by
Hill; and the public service announcement, 鈥淣orthshore Recycling,鈥� produced by Javon
Monroe of Prairieville.
Those productions winning honorable mention were the student entertainment show
鈥淐ollege Night,鈥� produced by Shearer and Taylor with contributions from Hill, Monroe,
Amairi Cordova of New Orleans, Madison Pullen of Baton Rouge, Molly Flynn of Amite,
Matt Flores and Grace Jovanovic of Slidell, and Mason Dauphin and Jordan Reid of Luling;
the documentary, 鈥淒rums Along the River,鈥� produced, directed and edited by Drew Sagona
of Carriere, Miss., and videotaped by Flores; the short film 鈥淓mma,鈥� produced, written,
directed, shot and edited by Barbier. The promotional spot honored was for 鈥溌槎勾接郴銎�
Telecourses鈥� by Taylor; and the public service announcements awarded included 鈥淎re
You Okay?鈥� by Jovanovic, 鈥淏ig Brothers, Big Sisters鈥� by Flores, and 鈥淪lavery Has a
Face鈥� by Shearer.
NATIONAL AWARD WINNERS-The 麻豆传媒映画出品 Channel recently won national 2015 Videographer Awards for 16 student
productions, including short films, music videos, promotional spots, and public service
announcements along with a documentary, sportscast and entertainment show. Winners,

Registration open for 麻豆传媒映画出品 Community Music School
Registration for the spring session of 麻豆传媒映画出品鈥檚 Community Music School (CMS)
is now open.
Students of all ages may participate in private lessons on various instruments
and voice. Opportunities for group instruction and chamber ensemble formation are
also available. Lessons begin on Monday, January 25.
Registration will remain open throughout the semester. Registrations received
after January 20 will have a $20 late registration fee added to the tuition fee. Due
to a sponsorship from First Guaranty Bank, CMS will once again offer a discounted
tuition to students who are on reduced or free lunch at their schools.
鈥淲e look forward to the spring 2016 semester, as well as the summer band camp
and workshops taking place at the end of June,鈥� said CMS Director Jivka Duke. 鈥淲e
are enthusiastic about hosting our first annual CMS Festival, which will be an exciting
opportunity for our students to showcase their achievements and to be awarded for
their talent and dedication. We also plan to continue our Hammond Farmers Market music
presence and to remain active in other community events.鈥�

New look at Starbucks
 麻豆传媒映画出品's Starbucks location has been renovated in time for the opening of the
new semester. The changes include new furniture inside and out as well as an improved
interior arrangement that creates more space for study and relaxation.
