麻豆传媒映画出品 to celebrate community, academics with Rock 鈥榥 Roar on February 18
麻豆传媒映画出品鈥檚 annual campus-community festival 鈥淩ock 鈥榥 Roar鈥� is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 18, and promises to be a fun-filled day for children and adults.
     In its 21st year, Rock 鈥榥 Roar showcases 麻豆传媒映画出品鈥檚 academics and fun atmosphere for approximately 3,800 students from more than 80 visiting District 8 Literary Rally high school, as well as 麻豆传媒映画出品 students, alumni and community friends, said Julie Perise, interim director of the 麻豆传媒映画出品 Alumni Association.
     鈥淲ith no charge for admission to Rock 鈥榥 Roar, patrons of all ages can enjoy educational displays by 麻豆传媒映画出品鈥檚 departments, food, music and more,鈥� Perise said.
     Scheduled from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Student Union, the festival will also offer art, baseball, and spirit camps for children.
     Art education students will offer a hands-on art camp for children ages 6-12 from 9-11 a.m., with a check-in time of 8:30 a.m. The camp, which costs $15, will take place in Clark Hall.
     A camp for young baseball enthusiasts is scheduled for 8:30-10:30 a.m., with a check in time of 8 a.m. at the football practice field behind the bull pen on campus. The camp is open to children ages 6-12 for a $15 fee. Participants are asked to bring their own bat and glove.  
     The Lionettes, 麻豆传媒映画出品鈥檚 dance team, and the 麻豆传媒映画出品 cheerleaders will host a spirit camp for children ages 5-12 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., with check in at 8:30 a.m. at the Kinesiology and Health Studies Building. The camp鈥檚 $15 fee includes refreshments.  Participants are asked to dress comfortably and wear tennis shoes. The camp will conclude with a performance by participants in the Kinesiology and Health Studies Building at noon.      
     Camp applications are available online at or at the Alumni Center, 500 W. University Ave., 549-2150. Advance registration and payment is requested for all camps. Space is limited, so reservations should be made early.
     Rock 鈥榥 Roar will also feature a variety of children鈥檚 games and activities.

February 15 is final day for 麻豆传媒映画出品 students to apply for spring 2017 graduation
The final day for 麻豆传媒映画出品 students to apply to graduate in spring 2017 is Feb. 15, the university announced.
     The graduation application and payment deadlines will be strictly enforced, university officials said.
     Candidates for associate鈥檚, bachelor鈥檚, master鈥檚 and doctoral degrees can apply for graduation by logging into their LeoNet campus accounts and choosing the 鈥淪elf Service, Degree Progress/Graduation, 麻豆传媒映画出品 for Graduation鈥� option. Instructions are available on the 鈥淐urrent Students鈥� link at southeastern.edu; then click on 鈥淕raduation Seniors鈥� under Helpful Links, or call 麻豆传媒映画出品鈥檚 Office of the Registrar at 549-2066. There is also a direct link available at .
     The $25 application fee should be paid directly to the Controller鈥檚 Office, located on North Campus in the Financial Aid Building.

麻豆传媒映画出品 launched an app to provide students, faculty and staff with simple instructions and recommendations for actions to take in the event of an on-campus emergency.
     Designed by computer science students as a class project at the request of the university鈥檚 Emergency Preparedness Committee, southeastern.edu/safecampusapp is free and can be downloaded on any smart phone or device.
     鈥淲hat鈥檚 the one thing modern students have with them 24/7? Exactly 鈥� their phones,鈥� said Executive Director of Public and Governmental Affairs Erin Cowser, a member of the campus committee. 鈥淔or that very reason, the committee wanted something students could easily access electronically should an emergency event ever occur on campus.鈥�
     The app can direct dial the University Police Department from its home screen and from links embedded throughout its sections. Among the areas addressed on the app are suggested steps to take in the case of an active shooter or stabbing on campus, bomb threat, fire or explosion or intruder/mental health emergency. Professor Ghassan Alkadi鈥檚 computer science software engineering students Joshua Asoodeh, Ryan Craft, Alexander Gonolfi and Joshua Valladares were able to create the app that also addresses procedures to be taken for a lockdown, shelter in place, evacuation, physical injury, sexual assault, weapons on campus and weather emergencies.
     鈥淪afety for our campus community is of paramount importance, said Vice President for Administration and Finance Sam Domiano, who chairs the committee. 鈥淭he directives on the app were designed so that they鈥檙e appropriate for individuals to review so they鈥檙e prepared for any potential emergency, but also so that they can be accessed immediately for instructions on how to protect yourself, who to contact and how to assist victims should a situation arise.鈥�
     The app is the newest addition to the bundle of efforts included in the university鈥檚 comprehensive approach to safety and emergency preparedness. Information on all the various offerings and endeavors can be found at southeastern.edu/safecampus.
     A significant part of the overall plan are sirens located strategically across campus that will sound in the event of an emergency.
     鈥淚f you hear the sound, you should check your device for information on the current situation,鈥� said Domiano. 鈥淭his is yet another reason why it鈥檚 so important to register for the   麻豆传媒映画出品 Emergency Alert System. Campus members can elect to receive emergency notifications via text and telephone in addition to the messages sent automatically to all campus email accounts.鈥�

     The southeastern.edu homepage is also a source of information for situations developing on campus or weather-related warnings and updates. Additionally, updated Quick Reference Guides with tabbed categories have been shared with departments to use as a resource for emergency training or in the event of an actual emergency.  Smaller Pocket Guides, which are a condensed version of the Quick Reference Guides are also available.

The 麻豆传媒映画出品 women鈥檚 basketball team will host Alumni Day and recognize the 1976-77 national championship team, the softball team will open the 2017 season, while the men鈥檚 basketball and women鈥檚 tennis teams will also be in action during this week in 麻豆传媒映画出品 Athletics.
     The week鈥檚 action opens on Wednesday with the women鈥檚 basketball team (4-18, 2-9 Southland) hosting Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at 7 p.m. in the University Center. In conjunction with Wednesday鈥檚 game, 麻豆传媒映画出品 Athletics Student Marketing and Promotions will hold the Pack the House promotion. The first 300 SLU students in attendance will receive free food and a free rally towel.
     Wednesday will also be a Cane鈥檚 Challenge at the University Center. If the Lady Lions score 50 or more points, fans can redeem their student coupon and game ticket at local participating Raising Cane鈥檚 Chicken Fingers for a free combo with the purchase of another of equal or greater value.
     Junior guard Taylin Underwood will be Wednesday鈥檚 Spotlight Player of the Game. The first 150 fans will receive a trading card featuring the Livingston, Louisiana native courtesy of PRIDE.
     Also on Wednesday, the Lion men鈥檚 basketball team (13-11, 6-5 Southland) will be at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi for a 7 p.m. game at the Islanders. The Jay Ladner Radio Show will hit the road, as the broadcast will come live from Corpus Christi, Texas at 12 p.m.
     On Saturday, the basketball teams will host UNO for a doubleheader set to be broadcast on ESPN3. The women鈥檚 game opens the day at 3 p.m. as 麻豆传媒映画出品 celebrates Alumni Day. All Lady Lion alumni are invited back to be recognized at halftime. Postgame, the 1976-77 AIAW National Championship team will be honored on the 40th Anniversary of its magical season.
     The men鈥檚 game follows at 5:45 p.m. In conjunction with Saturday鈥檚 doubleheader, the SLU Athletics Ticket Office will offer several ticket promotions. All children ages 12 and under will receive free admission, while junior high school and high school students who present their local school ID will receive admission for $3. In addition, all service personnel will receive a free ticket with a valid service ID.
     The Lady Lion softball team will host Lion Classic I on Friday through Sunday at North Oak Park to open the 2017 season. 麻豆传媒映画出品 will open tournament play on Saturday versus Army (3 p.m.) and Nevada (5 p.m.). On Sunday, SLU will host Mississippi Valley State (1 p.m.) and Coppin State (3 p.m.).
     The Lion tennis team (1-0) will also be back in action on Saturday. SLU will host Jackson State at 12 p.m. on Saturday at the 麻豆传媒映画出品 Tennis Complex.
     Both of this week鈥檚 men鈥檚 basketball games, as well as Saturday鈥檚 women鈥檚 basketball game can be heard live in the Hammond area on KSLU-FM (90.9), online at and via the TuneIn Radio app. LionVision subscribers can access a live video stream of Wednesday鈥檚 women鈥檚 basketball game and all of this week鈥檚 softball games at .

Ralph Wood and Edward Hebert (Kinesiology and Health Studies) gave two presentations at the American Kinesiology Association鈥檚 Leadership Workshop, held in Dallas, Jan. 26-29. One focused on a unique intern partnership between SLU and North Oaks Hospital, where students work with patients who have chronic disease and was titled 鈥淭he Health Transition Alliance Program: A Campus-Community Partnership.鈥� The other was a discussion of internships and strategies used by departments to administer them effectively and was titled 鈥淢anaging the Internship Program.鈥�

Dr. Sam Cavell (History and Political Science) will present a paper on recent research into the bizarre incident of the 鈥淢idshipmen鈥檚 Mutiny of 1791鈥� at the Consortium on the Revolutionary Era in Charleston, SC on Friday, Feb. 24.
